GPU mining rigs do have a couple of downsides, however, that a person looking on how to build a mining rig should know. The biggest downside is its price . Graphics cards tend to be quite expensive ( or very expensive, if you’re aiming for the best of the best ), so the initial investment you might have to make could be somewhat significant.

This probably isn’t all that surprising. What might be surprising is that there are, and have been, several different types of mining rigs including mining rigs that used hard drives to do the work. Today, however, it’s really down to ASICs, GPUs and CPU mining rigs, with CPU mining rigs being the least common.
